AND ONE!

Trinchieri named as new Brose Baskets head coach

Andrea Trinchieri was introduced as the new head coach of Brose Baskets Bamberg. The 45-year-old Italian spent this past season with Russian side Unics Kazan and guided them to the final of the Eurocup and was named the competition’s Coach of the Year. Trinchieri and Bamberg signed on a three-year contract.

“Bamberg like me have a vision, and a manner of bringing this vision to life. That’s why I was convinced that we would find a common ground when they contacted me. The offer doesn’t include just a good organization with ambitions and a new beginning after a very successful run but it also has stability,” said Trinchieri about his decision to come to Bamberg.

“Kazan was a wonderful experience which taught me a lot and for which I will always be thankful. I have decided now against money and for stability. Bamberg have realistic goals. They know where they want to go and are ready to do what is necessary to get there.”

Brose Baskets sports director Wolfgang Heyder said the club is happy to bring in Trinchieri. “We are pleased to have found a very experienced coach in Andrea, who has proven that he has success with his teams. He plays a very European style, which I personally respect very much. In addition, he already knows the structures in Bamberg. While in Cantu, he ran a similar program.”

Heyder added that the coach’s most recent job in Russia was also impressive.

“Andrea showed clearly in Kazan what he can do and was deservedly named Coach of the Year during the last Eurocup season. I believe that he will definitely bring our entire program a number of steps forward,” added Heyder.

“I am happy that we could acquire an absolutely top level coach in Europe in Andrea Trinchieri and also that we could accomplish an important requirement for a successful future of Bamberg basketball,” said Michael Stoschek, Bamberger Basketball GmbH supervisory board chairman.

Trinchieri started his coaching career in 1998 as an assistant in his home city Milan with Olimpia Milano. In 2008-09, he took over as head coach at Veroli Basket and guided them to the title in the second division and was named coach of the year. He was head coach at Pallacanestro Cantu from 2009 to 2013, winning the Italian Supercup in 2012-13. In 2010 and 2011, he was named Italy’s coach of the year. He was the Greece national team coach last summer at the 2013 EuroBasket before moving to Russia to take over at Unics Kazan, with whom he reached the semi-finals of the Russian championship and the Eurocup final.
